The Y Mag is mailed to Y members and also made available to the general public with drop points at restaurants, cafes, libraries and other public venues in Waynesboro and Augusta County.

“The childcare staff and I are so excited about the childcare website. This is our opportunity to show the community the hands on learning and fun that take place at the Y,” said Waynesboro Y Childcare director Rebecca Patton.

The site features detailed information on preschool, pre-kindergarten, school-age and summer-camp programs. It also offers a detailed Childcare Handbook and bios for Y Childcare staff members.

Augusta Free Press LLC also linked the site to a dedicated Waynesboro Y Childcare Facebook page that gives parents another easy way to access information about the programs offered.

“Parents will now have the ability to have schedules and calendars right at their fingertips. As we move forward and continue to grow, this website will help us to reach the viral market. The staff and I actively agree that good childcare is good family care,” Patton said.

Augusta Free Press LLC stepped up twice to get the Blue team on the court in 2011. The business paid for the shirts and also provided the coach, AFP owner and AugustaFreePress.com and New Dominion Magazine editor Chris Graham.

Graham had been on an extended sabbatical from youth-basketball coaching but offered to take on a team after learning that increased participation in Y basketball this year had led to a shortage of coaches to go around.

Employing a triangle offense and a ball-pressure defense, the Blue team won the regular-season championship with a 6-1-1 record. The Blues fell short in the postseason, losing both of their games.

“A wonderful experience,” Graham said of the season on the hardwood. “The Y plays such a positive role in the lives of the young men and young women who grow up on the court upstairs. I’m honored to have been able to play a small role in what they’ve been doing year in and year out for decades to have a positive influence on this community.”

Augusta Free Press Publishing has completed the redesign of the website of the Waynesboro Family YMCA.

The new website went live in January. The site features up-to-date information on program offerings in adult and senior fitness, youth sports and childcare.

AFP Publishing also produces content for the site on a regular basis profiling staff and members at the Y and offering information on classes and Y programs.

The Y and AFP Publishing have been partners since 2009 on marketing efforts including the production of the Y Magazine, a program guide that is distributed to residents of Waynesboro and is also made available to readers of the News Virginian as an insert into the Waynesboro-based daily newspaper.

“The AFP has been a great business partner in shaping our marketing efforts, developing an annual theme to rally behind, and provide the technical support to push our efforts,” Y Executive Director Jeff Fife said.
